Japan’s wine culture is defined by restraint, precision, and a deep respect for place. Rather than spectacle, it offers clarity, rather than excess, balance. This journey begins in Nagano, where high-elevation vineyards produce wines of freshness and tension. Guests visit Villa d’Est and Mercian’s Mariko Vineyard, internationally recognized for its quality and research, before continuing south to Katsunuma, the birthplace of Japanese wine. Here, the tour explores historic estates such as Maruki Winery and Lumière Winery, alongside contemporary pioneers including Terre de Ciel, Gio Hills, and 98 Wines, ranked among the world’s top vineyards. Over the course of 4 nights and 5 days, guests will visit 11 wineries, one sake producer, and one whisky distillery, offering a rare and comprehensive view of Japan’s fermentation and distillation culture.
Organized and guided by the professional team of Shola Karuizawa and Shishi-Iwa House, who are based in the region and deeply connected to its producers, this tour offers insight and access beyond that of a conventional visit. Beyond wine, the experience is enriched by great food, forest bathing, and nature walks, including Sengataki Waterfall and the Ojira River Valley, alongside a private tasting lunch at the 300-year-old Shichiken Sake Brewery. The journey concludes at Suntory’s Hakushu Distillery, set deep within the forest, bringing together wine, water, nature, and craftsmanship in quiet harmony.
