Championing refined craftsmanship and cultural experiences, Shishi-Iwa House’s exclusive 3 nights / 4 days cultural getaway in partnership with PoJ Studio from Kyoto returns in Summer 2026. The program will be held on June 7 - 10, 2026, offering guests the opportunity to learn about the revered ancient art of Kintsugi.
The experience is exclusive for only 12 guests, who will be taken through the rare century-old method of repairing ceramic and porcelain tableware, symbolizing the beauty of Zen imperfections.
The package covers accommodations at the award-winning SSH No.01 and SSH No.02, Shishi-Iwa House’s first two retreat houses crafted by Pritzker Prize winner Shigeru Ban, and dining experiences that express a high level of culinary craftmanship revolving around the local food and farm culture of Nagano.
Dining experiences include meals at Shola Karuizawa, the modern Japanese restaurant at Shishi-Iwa House, known for using fresh sustainably raised ingredients directly from nearby farms; Karuizawa Sakaba8, which offers a refined seasonal kaiseki set course; Soba Kikori, a soba restaurant considered to be the finest handmade soba in Karuizawa; and Vase, an exquisite fine dining restaurant nestled among the greenery of Karuizawa.
