Myojin Pond is a beautiful, serene pond in Kamikochi. Known for its clear emerald waters and surrounding lush forests, the pond is a sacred site in Japanese Shinto belief, associated with the nearby Hotaka Shrine, which honours the mountain deity Hotaka.

The walk to Myojin Pond is a gentle, scenic journey of about an hour, following a well-maintained trail along the Azusa River. The trail begins in the lush Kamikochi Valley, passing through a tranquil forest of cedar, birch, and Japanese maple trees, which are especially vibrant in autumn.

Along the way, hikers can enjoy views of the turquoise Azusa River and catch glimpses of the Northern Japanese Alps, including the iconic Mt. Hotaka. Wooden bridges cross clear mountain streams, adding to the charm of the route.

After around 3 km, the path leads to Myojin Pond, a place revered for its natural beauty and spiritual significance. The pond’s still, clear waters reflect the surrounding peaks, creating a peaceful, almost mystical atmosphere.
